It is crucial to provide original Lithuanian documents proving that your Lithuanian ancestor held Lithuanian citizenship as part of your application for Lithuanian citizenship.
Do not worry if you do not have any of the required Lithuanian documents. As part of the evaluation we will determine what documents are required (taking the unique circumstances of your case into account) and if it is likely that these documents exist in the various Lithuanian archives. Once we have identified what documents are required we will conduct our own research to see what documents we are able to locate on electronic indexes of the archives. Please note that this is not an exhaustive search, it merely assists our researchers to obtain the required documents from the archives when we proceed to the next stage – Archival research
If we feel that you are eligible for Lithuanian citizenship we will set up a Skype video conference call with you (if you are based in Johannesburg we will be happy to set up a face to face meeting with you) to discuss the merits of your case, the process and what information we have been able to locate. After the conference call/meeting, we will provide you with a list of the required original metric documents (naturalization/birth/marriage certificates) that you will have to obtain for the purposes of your application for Lithuanian citizenship.
If we conclude that you are not eligible we will notify you via email correspondence together with the reason of non-eligibility.
