Lithuanian Citizenship

We will conduct a full evaluation based on the information and documentation that you have sent us to determine if you are eligible for Lithuanian citizenship in terms of the relevant Lithuanian citizenship legislation.

It is crucial to provide original Lithuanian documents proving that your Lithuanian ancestor held Lithuanian citizenship as part of your application for Lithuanian citizenship.

Do not worry if you do not have any of the required Lithuanian documents. As part of the evaluation we will determine what documents are required (taking the unique circumstances of your case into account) and if it is likely that these documents exist in the various Lithuanian archives. Once we have identified what documents are required we will conduct our own research to see what documents we are able to locate on electronic indexes of the archives. Please note that this is not an exhaustive search, it merely assists our researchers to obtain the required documents from the archives when we proceed to the next stage – Archival research

At the conclusion of the evaluation stage:

If we feel that you are eligible for Lithuanian citizenship we will set up a Skype video conference call with you (if you are based in Johannesburg we will be happy to set up a face to face meeting with you) to discuss the merits of your case, the process and what information we have been able to locate. After the conference call/meeting, we will provide you with a list of the required original metric documents (naturalization/birth/marriage certificates) that you will have to obtain for the purposes of your application for Lithuanian citizenship.

If we conclude that you are not eligible we will notify you via email correspondence together with the reason of non-eligibility.

The cost of the evaluation is:

SA Location

R2000 incl. VAT

Should you decide to utilise our services to compile and submit your application for Lithuanian citizenship the cost of the evaluation fee will be deducted off the final instalment of the application fee.

Archival Research:

We will commission a researcher to conduct a search of the Lithuanian archives for the required documents. We collaborate with the researcher by sending him a complete list of the documents to obtain as well as the information/documentation that we have located to date. Should the documents be located, our researcher will obtain certified copies of these documents from the archives and we will courier these documents back to our office.

Prior to the commencement of this stage we will provide you with a quote to conduct the archival research.

Should you have all of the relevant documents, this stage will not be necessary.

Additional Review:

Once we have obtained the required documents from the archives we will conduct a final review of your case taking into account the documents obtained from the archives as well as the other metric documents that you have sent us (including those documents that may not have been previously available). If we are satisfied that you stand a high chance of success, based on all of the documents, we will issue you with a formal quotation and an agreement setting out the fee, details of the application process and time frame.

Compilation & Submission of Application:

We will then compile and submit your application directly to the Migration Department in Vilnius, Lithuania (the government department responsible for citizenship applications). All that you have to do is sign the documentation and forms that we have compiled for your application. We handle everything else including having all the documents translated into Lithuanian and having the necessary authorisations attached onto the documents.

We have excellent working relations with the officials at the Migration department. This makes it much easier when we have to discuss your case with them.
We will liaise with the case manager handling your case to determine the status of your application. We will also keep you updated on a regular basis concerning the status of your application. Should the case manager require any further documentation/information concerning your case we will attend to this.

Application for a Lithuanian passport:

We will notify you once your application for Lithuanian citizenship has been approved. We will also provide you with official proof that you have been granted Lithuanian citizenship.

All that you have to do is go to your nearest Lithuanian embassy/consulate in order to apply for your passport. It is a very simple process to apply however, one has to apply in person for the passport. The passport that is issued is a biometric passport that is valid for 10 years.
